Consultant Histopathologist

Consultant Histopathologist
We are working in partnership with an Acute General Hospital in Devon to appoint a Consultant Histopathologist.
The Department is housed in a self-contained unit opposite the outpatient department.
It comprises separate histopathology, cytopathology and immunohistology laboratories; secretarial office, 5 consultant offices, 1 senior MLSO office and tea-room.
The mortuary is close-by on the ground floor of the main hospital block and has undergone major updating with an increased storage facility, expanding from 50 standard fridges, 16 plus size and 4 freezer spaces to 65 standards, 20 plus size and 9 freezer spaces and a refitted postmortem room with 2 new tables. (New in 2017)
All consultants have their own offices with modern microscopes, video capture and VDU display, together with a networked PC.
There is a large multiheaded teaching/consultation microscope in the main laboratory.
A wide range of immunohistochemically stains are performed using 2 Benchmark Ultra analysers, with a maximum of 180 slides/day (if 3 ‘runs’, however, normally only 2 are required per day). These machines are also capable of performing in situ hybridisation, currently only used routinely for immunoglobulin light chains and EBV. Immunofluorescence is used for skin biopsies on request.

Acute Medicine Consultant
Devon£109,725 - £145,478
We are working with a University Hospital based in the South West who are looking to recruit Acute Medicine Consultants for their department.
These are permanent posts, however, the Trust will look at Fixed term contracts for candidates without GMC Specialist Registration.
The department can support the portfolio pathway and at present have 3 Doctors completing this process.
The post is a 10 PA contract with the opportunity for 2 additional PA's in a sub specialist interest, there is an on call commitment.
Acute Medicine Consultants will be expected to work no more than one in seven weekends, in line with other medical specialties. This will usually involve one long day (0800 to 2000 with a break in the middle) and one short day (0800 to 1300), or Saturday Take Assist (1100 to 1800) and Sunday SDEC shift (1000 to 1700).

Consultant Community Paediatrician

I am working with a district general hospital who are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic colleague to join the Consultant Community Paediatrician. The hospital is located in Hertfordshire.
The post is based at the Child Development Centre in the City, there may be some peripheral clinics in the county's special schools.
A good general Community Child Health background is essential; we are particularly looking to recruit a paediatrician with an interest and experience in autism/neurodevelopment.
Other special interests to complement the team, for example, neurodisability, ADHD, safeguarding, are welcomed, and the opportunity exists for on-the-job development of special interests. For the successful applicant, there is scope for leadership roles.

Specialty Doctor in Respiratory (with a view to CESR)

I am working with a district general hospital who are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic colleague to join the Respiratory & Acute Medicine teams as a Specialty Doctor. The role provides a path to develop skills & competencies towards a CESR, with potential to join the Respiratory Consultant team in the future. The hospital is located in Hertfordshire.
Duties
1. Inpatients – Care of Respiratory Unit patients and providing advice to inpatients in other areas with support of the Respiratory ward consultant, and alongside Respiratory specialty trainees. 1:4 weekend support on the Respiratory Ward.
2. Outpatients – The successful candidate will deliver general respiratory and have the opportunity to develop sub-specialist interest with the support of consultants. Particular support will be given to developing expertise in a variety of subspecialties to meet CESR requirements. Templates for clinics 3 new and 4 follow up patients.
3. The successful candidate will be supported to develop procedural skills in pleural procedures, including medical Thoracoscopy and bronchoscopy.
4. Maintaining a portfolio and logbook of procedures. The applicant will be supported towards achieving accreditation in thoracic ultrasound.
5. Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings and attend tertiary centre specialist sub-specialty training to meet Respiratory curriculum requirements.

The Role
The successful applicant will play a key role in supporting the delivery and future development of histopathology and cytopathology services at the Trust. The post also offers the opportunity to take the lead in one or more subspecialty disciplines, with current needs in:
Gynaecology (screening & non-screening workload and MDT)

The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with the 8 colleagues within Breast Imaging, to maintain a comprehensive, high-quality screening and symptomatic breast service. The appointee will also be part of a wider team of radiologists providing sub-specialty and General Radiology services across the Trust.
The post will have a commitment to support a range of diagnostic services including CT, MRI, plain film reporting and ultrasound examinations. An additional specialist interest may be able to be accommodated.
The Breast Service activities are concentrated in two main areas: the symptomatic service for GP referred patients and the NHS Breast Screening Programme.
The Breast imaging service provides a comprehensive diagnostic, screening and interventional service to include vacuum biopsy, Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis. Breast MRI is performed within both the symptomatic and NHSBSP High Risk Screening service.
The breast surgery service within Breast Services provides standard diagnostic and therapeutic surgery, as well as a comprehensive reconstructive surgery service (working closely with the Plastic Surgeons).
The Breast Service is multidisciplinary and includes, surgeons, radiologists, specialist nurses (breast care nurses and nurse practitioners), diagnostic radiographers and administrative/clerical staff.
The Breast Services budget includes funding for all breast inpatient and outpatient activity and breast diagnostic support. We have long established and frequently reviewed clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
The Breast Unit is one of the largest in the country, treating in around 7-800 new breast cancers each year diagnosed from 8,000 new referrals to the daily new referral "one stop" breast clinics.
The service provides a Breast Screening programme as part of the National Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP). The screening service is fully digital and is screening women aged 50 to 70 years.
The breast service also performs high risk MRI screening for our own resident population and clients.
The whole service is subject to very specific and exacting service standards and quality targets, monitoring through the Trent Quality Assurance Reference Centre.
The Unit has an active multidisciplinary research portfolio and is recognised as one of the pioneering and leading breast units in Europe. The Unit excels in breast diagnostic techniques and breast cancer prognostic factors and hosts one of the leading breast education and training centres in the UK.
