I am currently working with a Trust based just in Greater Manchester, and they are seeking a passionate and skilled Consultant Histopathologist to join there dynamic team on a NHS fixed term contract. The Histopathology department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a dedicated team committed to delivering excellent patient care. To meet the growing clinical workload, the Trust are expanding there team, which currently consists of 3.2 WTE Consultants and a Specialty Doctor, serving a population of approximately 330,000. Key Responsibilities: Broad expertise in Histopathology reporting. Gastroenterology, Breast, Colorectal, Haematology, Head and neck, Urology and Dermatology Consultant-led complex dissection. Consultant Cellular Pathology at Royal Devon University Healthcare Accredited Excellence Our Department of Cellular Pathology, based within the Devon Trust, is proudly UKAS (ISO15189) accredited. We actively participate in recognized external quality assurance (EQA) schemes for histopathology and cytopathology, ensuring the highest standards in diagnostics and reporting. Annual Workload Histopathology Requests: 12,500 per year Non-Gynaecological Cytology Requests: 800 per year The department handles an extensive range of biopsy and resection specimens, reflecting the demands of a small district general hospital (DGH). Notably, approximately 10% of histopathology requests originate from primary care doctors. Reporting and Specialization Our consultant pathologists utilize a flexible generalist reporting system, allowing them to focus on their subspecialist interests while maintaining a broad expertise. Work distribution follows a hybrid pull-push system: Specialist/Urgent Work: Pushed to designated consultants Non-Urgent Work: Pulled by consultants during reporting sessions. Multidisciplinary Meetings (MDMs) Regular MDMs are held for a variety of subspecialties, including: Breast, Gynaecology, Urology, Gastrointestinal, Dermatopathology (including inflammatory skin), and Lung Meetings take place in the purpose-equipped MDT room at the Medical Education Centre or virtually via MS Teams. The successful applicant will be involved in the care of children with all types of malignancy, but with primary responsibility for patients with solid tumours and leukaemia as well as those on early phase clinical trials. They will work closely with a strong multi-disciplinary team to provide specialist care for children with cancer across the region, including support from the 11 paediatric oncology shared care units across the region. They will be enthusiastic, highly motivated and help develop our paediatric oncology daycare and ambulatory service.
