We have been asked to source an Acute Medicine Consultant for a reputable Trust based in the South of Manchester.
The department are seeking candidates with GMC Specialist registration, however, consideration will be given to those actively pursuing the Portfolio pathway with fixed term contracts being offered whilst this is obtained.
The current rota is 09:00 – 17:00 most days with one late shift approximately every two weeks finishing at 21:30. There are four consultants completing ward rounds each morning with Resident medical/ACP/PA support.
The POD shift is from 07:00 – 15:00 and 13:00 – 17:00 and provides medical advice in the Emergency Department as well as leadership to the acute medical take. The role involves working flexibly across all areas depending on demand. Currently there is no requirement to cover overnight on call (provided by general medical on call rota).
Clinical duties are performed according to an agreed job plan which describes weekly working in a rotational arrangement with other acute physicians in terms of DCC and SPA activity. The job plan makes explicit allowance for clinical administration within the working week in the form of 1 PA based on a 10PA job plan or above.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care for older adults. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing innovative frailty services, supporting integrated care pathways and improving outcomes for an ageing population.
The role offers the opportunity to work across acute inpatient care, specialist frailty services and outpatient clinics, whilst contributing to service development, education and quality improvement initiatives. The Trust is well versed in supporting candidates through the portfolio pathway.
The Role
As a Consultant Physician, you will:
Deliver high-quality inpatient and outpatient care in Geriatric and General Medicine.
Lead multidisciplinary ward rounds and contribute to effective discharge planning.
Support the ongoing development of integrated frailty and elderly care services.
Participate in specialist outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary meetings.
Provide clinical leadership to junior medical staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to teaching, audit, clinical governance and quality improvement projects.
Work collaboratively with community services to enhance patient pathways and continuity of care.
The job plan will include a minimum of 8PA’s direct clinical care, 2 SPA’s and 1 PA for the on call element of the role, this can be in frailty or general medicine.
Key requirements
Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practise.
MRCP (or equivalent).
Broad experience in Geriatric Medicine and UK Acute General Medicine.
